This ALL CHURCH liturgy begins on the church patio with the Liturgy of the Palms, blessing of the palms, and a congregational procession through the church grounds. The service continues in the church with the dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel, and Holy Communion

Potluck will follow in the Parish Hall

MAUNDY THURSDAY, April 21
  7:30pm                 
 The Holy Eucharist: Rite Two, Foot Washing, and Stripping of the Altar in the church, followed by the procession of the Reserved Sacrament to the Altar of Repose in Rose Room

9pm Thur-12pm Fr  
Prayer Vigil in St. Luke’s Chapel. Are you willing to spend an hour or two in meditation, prayer, and veneration of the Reserve Sacrament after the stripping of the altar at the end of the Maundy Thursday service? There is a sign-up sheet available in the church.. We would like to have several people sign up for each block of time.

 Do you desire a closer walk with God?  A more intimate experience with Him, every day?  Do you really want to practice the presence of God?  Do you frequently find your mind wandering as you try to pray?  Maybe this is for you... An introductory workshop on Centering Prayer will be offered by Contemplative Outreach Saturday, February 12, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at St Alban’s Episcopal Church, 500 2nd St , Brentwood.  Centering prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to receive the gift, of contemplative prayer.  This prayer of silence consists of responding to the Spirit of Christ by consenting to God's presence and action within.  It furthers the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to cooperate with this gift.

The topics are:

  • Prayer as Relationship
  • Method of Centering Prayer
  • Thoughts and Centering Prayer
  • Fruits of Centering Prayer and Extending the Benefits into Daily Life
Six weekly follow up sessions are offered to help participants establish a daily commitment to the practice of Centering Prayer.  These sessions will be held at St Alban’s Church on Tuesday evenings beginning February 21.   The six hour workshop and the follow ups sessions are conducted by commissioned presenters trained by Comtemplative Outreach International. www.contemplativeoutreach.org

Marin Headlands Liturgical Hike
Saturday, August 21, 2010, 10am

You are invited to a liturgical hike at the Marin Headlands on Saturday August 21, 2010, gathering at 10am at the Marin Headlands Visitors Center. We will celebrate the Holy Eucharist in the context of a wilderness hike, and our presiding priest for the hike will be The Rev. Aris Rivera. Please RSVP if you plan on coming, and if you are willing to be a lector, intercessor, or serve as a deacon please email me (toseekjustice@gmail.com).

This hike will be different from our first hike in two ways: 

  1. There will be two successive hiking portions offered during this wilderness experience. The first will be the liturgical hike on the two-mile Lagoon Trail around the Rodeo Lagoon, where we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist. After the Eucharist, for those interested, we will hike down to the Point Bonita Lighthouse. The lighthouse is built on pillow lava and the trail leading to it goes through a tunnel in the rock.  This is a very rugged coastline, but the hike is moderate, with a fairly steep portion, which we can take slowly. This second portion is offered after the Eucharist to those interested in a little more adventure.
  2. Throughout these hikes, between the components of the Eucharist, St. Augustine’s parishioner David Romain will teach us about the wide range of geological features that bear witness to God’s handiwork. Not only will we celebrate the Eucharist in the outdoors, but we will learn of the wonder of God’s creation from someone who has studied it in its beauty and intricacy.
Notes:
  • Bring along a picnic lunch, since there are no concession food outlets in this area.  You should also bring snacks and bottled water for your convenience.  Be prepared to walk at least a couple miles, at a leisurely pace. 
  • It seldom rains at this time of the year.  If it does, however, we will stay on paved roads and rain should not be an obstacle.
  • Feel free to bring along children and/or friends, provided you take full responsibility for their safety and welfare. Cameras and binoculars will come in handy.  Also have a notebook and pencil to write and sketch interesting and useful information or simply to journal. There will be contemplate space of 20 minutes or so in lieu of a sermon.
The Marin Headlands Visitor Center is located in the historic Fort Barry Chapel, at the intersection of Field and Bunker Roads. The Visitor Center is approximately 3 miles from either entrance to the Marin Headlands. Directions to the Visitor’s Center are included at the end of this email, and a map for the park is attached. If you need a ride, let me know and don’t hesitate to aski if you have any questions.

Driving Directions

To MARIN HEADLANDS VISITOR’S CENTER from San Francisco

Go north on highway 101. Take the Alexander Avenue exit (second exit after crossing the bridge). Stay to the right on the exit ramp to get onto Alexander Ave. Turn left on Bunker Road (a brown sign saying “Marin Headlands Visitor Center” marks the intersection). Go through the one-way tunnel and drive approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Field Road. The visitor center will be on the right side of the road.

To MARIN HEADLANDS VISITOR’S CENTER from the East Bay

Take 580 west to the Richmond/San Rafael bridge. Cross the bridge (a toll necessary for this direction). Take the second exit after the bridge, go through Larkspur and get on 101 south. Follow 101 south through the Waldo tunnel. Take the last “Sausalito” just before the Golden Gate bridge. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and Pass under 101, at the stop sign go straight onto Alexander Avenue. Turn left on Bunker Road (a brown sign saying “Marin Headlands Visitor Center” marks the intersection). Go through the one-way tunnel and drive approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Field Road. The visitor center will be on the right side of the road.

To MARIN HEADLANDS VISITOR’S CENTER from the North Bay

Follow 101 south through the Waldo tunnel. Take the last “Sausalito” just before the Golden Gate bridge. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp.
