After the Eucharist, for those interested, we will hike down to the Point Bonita Lighthouse. The lighthouse is built on pillow lava and the trail leading to it goes through a tunnel in the rock. This is a very rugged coastline, but the hike is moderate, with a fairly steep portion, which we can take slowly. This second portion is offered after the Eucharist to those interested in a little more adventure.

Throughout these hikes, between the components of the Eucharist, St. Augustine’s parishioner David Romain will teach us about the wide range of geological features that bear witness to God’s handiwork. Not only will we celebrate the Eucharist in the outdoors, but we will learn of the wonder of God’s creation from someone who has studied it in its beauty and intricacy.

Notes:

Bring along a picnic lunch, since there are no concession food outlets in this area. You should also bring snacks and bottled water for your convenience. Be prepared to walk at least a couple miles, at a leisurely pace.

It seldom rains at this time of the year. If it does, however, we will stay on paved roads and rain should not be an obstacle.

Feel free to bring along children and/or friends, provided you take full responsibility for their safety and welfare.
